Acute neck pain

Datum :

Many people suffer from neck pain at one time or another. After back pain, neck pain is the most common physical complaint in the Netherlands. Which leads to large disease burden and causes high healthcare costs. Acute neck pain that occurs suddenly, 45% recovers on its own within 6 weeks, if this is not the case you can always go to the physical therapist.

The neck muscles must continuously exert extra effort, which eventually causes symptoms. Neck pain can be caused by tension, stress, fatigue, sports injuries, accidents or other physical trauma. However, due to the presence of ligaments, muscles and joints, the location of neck pain is not always easy to pinpoint.

What can a physical therapist do? It is prudent to prevent neck pain from becoming chronic and to remedy the cause of the symptoms in a timely manner, the physical therapist can assist with this. Depending on the nature of the complaints, the therapist will see which therapy can be the right one to help you get rid of or alleviate your complaints. Physical therapy with targeted exercises and mobilization can reduce pain. Pain medication you can take temporarily such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can provide relief from acute neck pain.
