Pelvic disorders and pregnancy

During pregnancy, the muscles, capsules and ligaments around the pelvis become more flexible under the influence of hormones. This affects the stability of the pelvis. In fact, every pregnant woman becomes more unstable in the pelvic area. This is normal and a natural preparation of the body for the delivery.

The pelvic physiotherapist can offer help with disorders during and after pregnancy. This is done through exercises to improve the stabilization process, but also through postural correction and advice on how the daily activities can be done better. Research has shown that staying active during pregnancy is important to prevent or reduce disorders around the pelvis and to recover more quickly after childbirth.

In some women, however, this weakening of muscles, capsules and ligaments causes pain and difficulty in movement. The growing uterus, the increased body weight and a different body posture during pregnancy can also contribute to the development of these disorders. There may still be complaints after delivery.
